Fr Bob Bates – Chaplain
Our Chaplain Revd Bob Bates is originally from Northamptonshire, where after a career as a Chartered Surveyor, he ministered in various rural parishes, and served on the Peterborough Diocese’s Council for the Countryside. In 2009 he moved to Portugal where for the Diocese in Europe he served as Chaplain in both the Algarve and in Porto, before retiring to Herefordshire in late 2016.
Bob has been busy since then in helping to give cover in a number of local parishes, and as a member of the Borderlands Rural Chaplaincy (www.borderrchaplain.org), offers pastoral support to folk in farming and its associated industries. Bob its also a member of the Agricultural Christian Fellowship (ACF), and The Agricultural Chaplains’ Association.
Bob is married to Diane who is training to be a Reader (Lay minister) and they live just south of Hereford. Their son, Tom is a priest and Sub-Dean in Abergavenny.
As our Chaplain, Bob is available to anyone who feels the pressures of difficult situations, in business, within the family, or through any of the demands of the farming process – he may not have the answers, but is willing to lend a listening ear, and to give such help and support as possible.
