HEAS Field and Livestock Competitions 2019 – Harewood End Agricultural Society

The judging of the annual Field and Livestock Competitions of the Harewood End Agricultural Society took place on the 24th and 25th June, over two damp and wet days! Toby Wenden of Wallis Farms was organiser of the judges, stewards and entries and succeeded in getting judges from many counties to come and visit the farms and crops entered.
The second day’s judging culminated in the prize-giving, where there was fierce competition from the HEAS farmers for the wonderful array of silver trophies for the variety of classes and crops.
Chairman Ben Drummond, opened the proceedings by welcoming over 120 adults, plus children and babies to his and his wife Abby’s home. He thanked the Sponsors, NFU Mutual, Harrison Clark Rickerbys, Brightwells and RFM for their kind sponsorship of the event.  Toby Wenden thanked all the judges, stewards for their generous giving of time and then took over the serious business of prizing giving with Abby.  The judges gave a detailed report on their findings and were complimentary about the high standards of agriculture and the quality of the crops despite the wet conditions of recent weeks. Sue Marshall, President, rounded off the awards, reminding all of how special out society is, now in its 129th year!
A wonderful supper, provided by Field to Fork Caterers, was held in the garden of Ben and Abby’s home at The Callow, Walford, (with the foresight to pop a tunnel up for protection against the unpredictable summer weather!) and was thoroughly enjoyed by the many members present. Congratulations to all prize winners and entrants.  The full list of awards are below and photograph is courtesy of Philip Tong.
